ABOUT

Ogochukwu Bibiana Ossai is a Nigerian fiction writer based in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. in Fiction from Texas Tech University and an MFA from Long Island University, Brooklyn, where she was awarded the Marilyn Boutwell Graduate Award in Fiction. Her work has been supported by numerous prestigious fellowships and scholarships, including the Anaphora Literary Arts Residency, the Hatty Fitts Walker Scholarship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, The Poetry Project, and a fellowship from Idyllwild Arts Writers Week.

She is the winner of the 2019 Equinox Prose and Poetry: Poetry Contest, a longlisted author for the 2023 Voyage Anthology 2 contest, a finalist in the WOW! Women on Writing Winter 2024 Flash Fiction Contest, and was longlisted for the Dzanc Poetry Prize for her poetry collection House of Ferns.

Bibiana’s stories and poems delve into human psychology, moral ambiguity, grief, and trauma, often centering marginalized and underrepresented voices as they navigate identity in a world that teeters between chaos and calm. Through fiction, she explores the historicity of particular peoples, postcolonial legacies, and the enduring ways history shapes contemporary life.

When she’s not writing or teaching undergraduate courses, Bibiana enjoys watching Korean dramas, traveling, and immersing herself in the rich cultures and landscapes of the world. She is also passionate about photography and hiking some of the world's most breathtaking trails.
